MOT Tests price increases (posted 24/8/2006)

It is reported today that the cost of a car MOT test certificate will increase from £44.15 to £50.35 in October. The reason given for this increase is that the new computerised system has increase the time needed to carry out the test. Research has shown that instead of the complete investigation taking 52.2 minutes it now runs at over 58 minutes.

Not only has the computerisation increased the test time, but there is a systems cost of 27p for each MOT processed - there are approximately 23 million tests carried out each year.
